South Korea’s Daewoo has agreed to resume its work at Zueitina power station. The news came after yesterday’s signature of an MoU between Daewoo and the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) at the latter’s Tripoli headquarters.

GECOL said the MoU comes in the context it’s endeavour to complete the suspended projects and the return of the Korean companies to complete the contracted projects.

Acute power cuts

The agreement is very timely and comes at a time of acute power cuts that have led to violent Libya wide demonstrations and are threatening to collapse Libya’s fragile political system.

GECOL was represented by chairman Wiam Al-Abdali at the signing ceremony. He and his board have returned to work awaiting investigation after being suspended by Tripoli-based Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba due to the acute power cuts.
